Were you RAISED ON HELL, FIRE, AND DAMNATION? As it turns out, so was the Matthean community in the Gospel according to Matthew. Weeping and gnashing of teeth, eternal torment, being cast into outer darkness…these were a few of the author’s favorite expressions. How do such descriptions square up with your image of the Divine?

This Sunday, we are going to “RAZE” some hell as we examine scriptural vignettes from the Gospel according to Matthew while asking how a supposed good, loving, and merciful God could be capable of condemning people to the atrocities of hell.
